Over 100 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Honduras received high quality training in bakery and pastry making, sales and inventory management, and refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance. They also received classes in soft skills and basic business management, as well as career guidance. More than half of the youth trained have completed internships at PriceSmart clubs in San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa. The trainees have newfound confidence and career plans because of the program as these young women attest:

Sara receives her certificate from her instructor

Sara was one of only three women among 19 students in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning training. She told us that “interacting with my male classmates in the course helped me to grow as a person, to be more social and to know myself better. It also showed me that our gender doesn't limit what we can do.” Sara interned in the maintenance department of a major hotel chain and is now working as a maintenance contractor.

Flor during her internship at PriceSmart

Flor trained in Sales and Inventory Management and is now running a small computer equipment business while studying to become a professional chef.

“I am already putting into practice everything I learned in the course and at my internship at PriceSmart. I am grateful to PriceSmart for supporting us and sharing their company knowledge.”

So far over 65% of those who finished their internships have found work and others are pursuing additional training or education. PriceSmart team members supported the program at every stage and have even offered jobs to some of the program graduates. We are excited to see how this partnership can grow to reach even more deserving youth!
