On March 8th, the world celebrated International Women's Day.  That day PriceSmart and PriceSmart Foundation joined the chorus of voices advocating for women's empowerment at an event celebrating the participants of the EMPRO (Empresarias Progresando) program in Honduras. The gathering, attended by representatives from PriceSmart’s operations and merchandising teams and from PriceSmart Foundation, was a testament to the remarkable journey of the 40 women business owners supported by this project, which was implemented by the renowned Central American business school, INCAE.

The celebration was an opportunity to showcase the resilience, creativity, and sheer determination of these trailblazing women.  The women each had a stand to showcase their goods and services to local private sector companies.  From craft food products to furniture designers to clothing manufacturers, each entrepreneur shared her unique story with attendees including retail distributors, financial institutions, and others.  One of the participants told the story of how EMPRO helped her grow her artisanal sausage business, Dicarne, and become a vendor at PriceSmart. Together they illustrated the transformative power of investing in small and medium-sized businesses led by women.

PriceSmart’s engagement in this program underscores the company and the Foundation’s joint commitment to gender equity, recognizing the profound impact that women have on their communities and economies alike. Together, let's continue to pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous future.
